With La Locandiera, in 1752, Goldoni signed a manifesto of theatrical revolution and with it one of the most successful comedies in the history of theater, attesting to its decisive role in the imagination of our culture. Much has been said and accomplished about Mirandolina, and numerous and famous have been, and still are, its interpreters and keys to its interpretation. All our attention has been focused on her, straining to grasp, among the vivacity, strength and intelligence of her character, what is at stake. In a world where we are witnessing the rise of the new bourgeois class, which puts work at the center of its value system, is there still room for love and passion? And what kind of love are we talking about?
