The Dream Life by and with Vittorio Lingiardi ("Lectio")

  • Boschetto - Parco Ciani Lugano, TI, 6900 Switzerland (map)

What are dreams for? Who are we while we dream? Is there a relationship between dreams and personality? In an exciting lecture-show Vittorio Lingiardi tries to answer these questions, explaining dreams as enigmas suspended between mind and brain, wild animals that we have always tried to capture: reading them as messages from the gods; interpreting them as secrets of the unconscious; recording them as neural activities. "Every dream," Freud wrote more than a century ago, "has a navel through which it is joined to the unknown." From this mysterious navel, which gives the title to his new book ("The Navel of the Dream," Einaudi, 2023) Vittorio Lingiardi takes us on a dreamlike and poetic journey between divination, psychoanalysis and neuroscience.

For "truth lies not in one dream, but in many dreams." We will have nightmares and Homeric visions; we will investigate the rapid dances of eye movements and the worried dreams of lockdown; we will dream with cinema and poetry. During his lecture-spectacle, Lingiardi will show, on large slides, dreams painted by the greatest painters (from Giotto to Kiefer) and dream sequences from famous films (from Bergman's "I Will Save You" to Lynch's "Mulholland Drive").

Sweet Dreams by the Eurithmics will be but one of the many songs that will form the soundtrack of this unforgettable event.
